When I photograph kids or a family I want it to feel natural and more like a family play date versus an hour of posing and following directions, so we'll talk and laugh and play a game or do a favorite activity. You'll just so happen to be having fun in a pretty setting, with nice lighting, and coordinating clothes because I'll spend time with you before your session planning all of that. And your genuine smiles will pour out because I'll be guiding you through your session so that you don't feel awkward or nervous in front of my lens. I approach my lifestyle portraits as a cross between documentary and classic portraiture. It's "coordinated storytelling," and it's my favorite approach to portraiture.
Posing is fun, too! During "full" sessions I sprinkle in a mix of posed portraits with my lifestyle approach. Any Mini Session events that I hold will tend to be heavier on the "posed" portraits as we have limited time to play around.
