#thefrontstepsproject update 5/11/2020: THANK YOU FOR THE AWESOME RESPONSE TO THIS PROJECT!
I appreciate the love shown our Medford Lakes Lions Club through your support of The Front Steps Project. In the end, I was able to donate my time to document 163 Laker families for this project. During that same time period, volunteers from the Lions Club had delivered groceries to over 1,000 local families...and they're still delivering!
As of May 11th, the Lions Club has received $5,038 from this project and an additional $55 from print sales!
To keep the love going, and to celebrate the re-opening of my favorite print studio, I am now expanding this project to include what I am calling "Prints for a Purpose." Now that I can once again offer my fine art prints, participating families will now have the option to purchase a 5x7 or 8x10 print from this project at a special price. For each print purchased, I will donate $5 to either the ML Lions Club or Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge. (each family will specify their charity choice upon purchase)
This project has given me purpose during this time. I wish I could accommodate making it out to everyone on the wait list, but it is time for me to switch focus back to my business and gearing up to re-open. Like all other small businesses, I have a lot of adjusting and planning to do to make the rest of this year as successful as possible.
Thanks for your support of Lions Club through this project!
Thanks again & Stay Well!
What is #thefrontstepsproject?
Cara Soulia, a photographer from Massachusetts, created this project for her hometown with hopes other photographers would jump on board. It's become a huge movement across the U.S. in just a few short days.
The Photography industry is not immune to the economic impact the Coronavirus has created. Photographers like myself find our businesses at a hault; but while we stress over the financial impact this has on our families and worry if our small businesses will survive, as creatives we still feel the need to produce...and as photographers, documenting this incredibly unique time in our lives is a no-brainer.
The Front Steps Project offers families an opportunity to enjoy having a family portrait taken outside of their home to document this time in history. Portraits are taken from a safe distance, 12+ feet away; I don't approach your home or family members at any point. Sessions are quick, less than 5 mins., and you'll receive one edited portrait to download & enjoy. In exchange, you are asked to make an online monetary donation to a local charity. I have selected our very own Medford Lakes Lions Club for this project.
During this time of uncertainty, we have a rare opportunity to have a forced break from many of life's daily stresses. We're all home now, not having to rush kids to this practice or hurry off to that meeting. We can play dress-up, cook dinner together, watch a movie, take a walk...and that is something to cherish.
And while we can't physically be with friends and family that live outside of our homes, we're not alone. We're all in this together. We can still join together as a community.
Who can participate?
Any resident of Medford Lakes, NJ. Participants are limited to including members of their immediate household only.
How does this session comply with social distancing?
At no point whatsoever will I approach your home or family members. I will text you when I am on my way to your home; at that point you will gather outside your doorstep/home or open a 1st floor window to peek out of. I will pull up, stay at the end of your walk/drive/yard/across the street/etc. - each home situation will vary, but I will stay distant for my health and yours! Lions Club donations are made online, and your will receive a link to download your portrait. (each family will receive one portrait to download)
What does the session cost?
In exchange for my time, services, and a digital file of your portrait I ask that you please make a monetary donation to the Medford Lakes Lions Club. Any amount is appreciated.
How can I register?
Please click the "register now" link located above, or you can go to my website www.littlebluecanoephotography.com.
As part of your registration you will sign a photo release for your family. Please note that all portraits from this project will be shared in a group download gallery (private link to all participants), as well as on my studio's FB, Instagram, and website.
What should we wear?
This is meant to be a documentary style, come-as-you-are photo project. By all means, use this as an excuse to shower and put on "real clothes" if you wish. BUT whatever your family's "quarantine fashion" may be is ABSOLUTELY fine - in fact, I encourage you to "keep it real".
